40

I turned 40 a few days ago.

Today I was writing an emailing to 140 friends and relatives letting them know about my upcoming participation in the AIDS/Lifecycle ride, and encouraging sponsorship donations.

Here is a "deleted scene" from that email, which was getting overlong...

As my 30s wore on, I kept waiting for a change where I would start feeling like one of those "mature adults" that I seem to have seen around me all my life. I have experienced a lot, mellowed out, grown a little wiser perhaps... but the mature-adult feeling never came. At this point, I guess if I'm still a boy at 40, I can be at 75 or 80 too, if I happen to live that long. Some people are like that. My own parents come to mind, each in different ways (so maybe it's hereditary). Or Grandpa Joad in The Grapes of Wrath.
